Die BSH übernahm 1998 den US-amerikanischen Hausgerätehersteller und erweiterte damit die BSH-Familie um eine weitere hoch angesehene Marke. Nach Abschluss der Übernahme wurden ehrgeizige Ziele gesetzt: "''We want to be the most competitive company on the sector. If there were an Oscar for product, service, and environmental protection BSH would get it!''". Die BSH nutzte die Marktposition von Thermador auch, um das eigene Geschirrspüler Portfolio in den USA zu vermarkten. Die BSH-Geschirrspüler überzeugten die US-amerikanischen Verbraucher nicht nur mit ihrer effizienten Reinigungsleistung, ein großer Pluspunkt war die geringe Betriebslautstärke – BSH-Geschirrspüler waren acht Mal leiser als bisherige US-Geräte.
