The parent company continued to develop into a global concern in the years that followed. The expansion into Asian markets that had been taking place since the 1970s and 1980s was followed by the development of the Eastern European markets in the 1990s with the opening of the Iron Curtain. The telecommunications product division grew in importance, while the digital age in the new millennium heralded the use of connected technology. The 21st century has already posed new challenges in the form of the global economic crisis and climate change.[1]
