Vacuum cleaners have a tradition stretching back over 111 years at BSH. In 1906, [[Siemens]] launched its first vacuum cleaner on the market with the so-called dedusting pump. This appliance was developed on the basis of the Siemens Elmo vacuum pump. It weighed 150 kg, had an upstream filter and was mounted on a movable sled.
Staubsauger haben bei der BSH eine Tradition von 111 Jahren: 1906 kommt mit der sogenannten Entstäubungspumpe der erste Staubsauger von Siemens auf den Markt. Entwickelt wird dieses Gerät auf Grundlage der Siemens-Elmo Vakuumpumpe. Es wiegt 150 kg, verfügt über einen vorgeschalteten Wasserfilter und ist auf einen fahrbaren Schlitten montiert.

At around the same time, similar appliances were being developed in England and [[Die Region Amerika|America]]. These early “mobile dedusting systems” were generally not used in private households as their dimensions, maintenance and operation rendered them unsuitable. They were very expensive and sometimes even had to be transported from one floor to another using special elevators. They were used mainly in hotels, restaurants, clubs and institutions.  
Zu etwa derselben Zeit werden ähnliche Geräte in England und Amerika entwickelt. Diese ersten „mobilen Entstaubungsanlagen“ werden meist noch nicht in Privathaushalten eingesetzt, da sie von ihren Ausmaßen, ihrer Wartung und ihrer Bedienung dafür noch nicht geeignet sind. Sie sind sehr teuer und müssen teilweise sogar mit speziellen Aufzügen von Stockwerk zu Stockwerk transportiert werden. Sie kommen also vorwiegend in Hotels, Restaurants, Clubs und Institutionen zum Einsatz.
 
Große und wohlhabende Haushalte kaufen als erste die neuen Entstäubungspumpen. Dort werden die Geräte natürlich vom Dienstpersonal bedient. Interessanterweise sind die Dienstmädchen zunächst eher entsetzt über die neuen Maschinen, die ihnen ja eigentlich das Leben erleichtern sollen. Sie fürchten sich vor der neuen Technik und sie haben Sorge, dass sie dadurch bald überflüssig werden.

Interestingly, housemaids were initially horrified by the new machines, which were actually intended to make their lives easier. They were afraid of the new technology and were worried that they would soon be rendered superfluous.
